Switching to Paper Packaging Was Easier Than Expected.

Here's How Bernbacher Did It.

Switching to paper packaging sounds simple in theory. In practice, it raises a lot of questions.

How will the new material behave on existing equipment? What happens to changeover times? Will output rates hold? For Bernbacher, a fifth-generation family pasta manufacturer in Bavaria, those questions were real. So was the pressure to move quickly. Consumer demand for sustainable packaging was growing, and the brand needed to respond without disrupting a production line running six days a week.

What they found surprised them. Working alongside ROVEMA, the transition from plastic film to paper was more manageable than anticipated. The right machine, the right testing process, and a partner willing to work through the unknowns together made the difference. Changeover times improved. Output stayed reliable. And Bernbacher now runs paper packaging across multiple SKUs, with plans to expand the transition across their full product range.
